One dead in semi-truck crash in El Centro

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) - The El Centro Police Department (ECPD) is investigating a crash which left one person dead.

ECPD said the crash happened at around 8 a.m. Monday in the area of E. Main Street and N. Earls Street.

Upon arrival, ECPD said officers found a "small sedan trapped underneath the trailer of a semi-truck with significant damage."

During the investigation, ECPD said the semi-truck was exiting a driveway and was "attempting to turn east onto" Main Street while a silver Nissan Murano was driving westbound when the two vehicles crashed.

Paramedics responded and "provided emergency treatment," but ECPD said the driver, a 29-year-old woman from Brawley who was the only person in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, according ECPD.

ECPD said their traffic collision inspector responded to the scene, and said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
