Kofa’s Jacqueline Smith eyes third straight Yuma County district golf title

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) — Jacqueline Smith has been the dominant force in Yuma County girls golf throughout her high school career.

Now, the Kofa senior is looking to add another district championship to her résumé.

Smith has spent all four years on Kofa’s varsity golf team and will return to the course looking to win the Yuma County district championship for the third consecutive year.

Last season, Smith shot a career-best 84 to claim the district title. This time, she has her sights set on beating that score.

“I just try my best and just focus on my game,” Smith said. “I do not think about all the bad shots I'm going to get or get good shots. I will keep going with what I'm doing, and if I have amazing scores, better than last year, my work is done as well.”

Smith will also have another opportunity to qualify for the state championship for the second straight year if she performs well enough at the district tournament.

She will be joined by golfers from Kofa, Cibola, Gila Ridge, San Luis, Somerton and Yuma when the tournament begins at 8 a.m. at Mesa Del Sol Golf Club.
