FBI announces reward in major joint federal investigation

UPDATE (1:29 PM): The FBI announced a $1 million reward for the arrest of Santinderjeet Singh, widely known as "Goldy Brar."

Singh, who is now on the FBI's Top Most Wanted List, was part of an international crackdown on organized crime gangs in India that has resulted in 37 arrests in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

"Operation Hardball" was a years-long federal investigation into Indian crime syndicates that engaged in racketeering, targeted killings, shootings, extortions, and the trafficking of bulk quantities of narcotics across international borders, and other crimes around the world.

Part of the investigation focused on the Bishnoi Enterprise ran by 33-year-old Lawrence Bishnoi from Punjab, India, who is now imprisoned in India.

Law enforcement officials have provided more information about the fugitive.

"Singh is based in the United States and is an alleged leader of the group in North America. He was charged in federal court in Los Angeles with multiple violations, to include racketeering influence and corrupt organization conspiracy, conspiracy to interfere, and attempted interference with commerce by extortion. Conspiracy to distribute possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances. Singh should be considered armed and dangerous."

LOS ANGELES (KYMA, NBC) - The FBI announced they are holding a press conference Monday morning.

During the press conference, the FBI said they are announcing a reward in a major joint federal investigation.

Patrick Grandy, Assistant Director in Charge with the FBI Los Angeles Field Office, is joined by Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton, Commanding Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department's Detective Bureau, Lisa Moreland, Deputy Commission for Federal Policing with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Declan Conroy, Assistant U.S Attorney for the Central District of California.
