Tracking storms to hit the region through Monday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Cloudy and unsettled conditions are taking over the region Sunday as moisture moves in. Bringing rain and thunderstorms to parts of the area through Monday night.

Yuma will stay mostly cloudy Sunday with a 30% chance for showers and a slight chance for thunderstorms during the afternoon. Temperatures will be cooler, with a high near 97°F.

El Centro will remain cloudy Sunday with highs ranging from 94-99°F. While widespread rain is not expected, a slight chance for showers develops Sunday night.

Storm chances continue into Monday, with Yuma seeing a slight chance for showers in the morning before partly cloudy skies develop during the afternoon. Highs should reach around 93°F.

Monday night brings another chance for showers and thunderstorms in Yuma, with a 40% chance of rain. El Centro could also see a slight chance for showers, with winds ranging from 10-20 mph.

While a Flood Watch is in effect Monday night and much of Tuesday for higher terrain areas of central and eastern Arizona, it does not include Yuma or Imperial counties.

Moderate to heavy rainfall could still develop in parts of the lower deserts, but those impacts are expected to avoid the region.

Temperatures will remain near to below normal through the middle of the week, with Yuma and El Centro staying in the 90s before a gradual warmup toward next weekend.
