Senate passes Sen. Gallego’s resolution honoring former Sen. Jon Kyl

WASHINGTON (KYMA) - The U.S. Senate passed Sen. Ruben Gallego's (D-AZ) bipartisan resolution to honor the life, service and legacy of former Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ).

Sen. Gallego introduced the resolution this week alongside Sens. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

The resolution, according to a press release, is to recognize former Sen. Kyl's decades of public service to both Arizona and the country.

This includes water policy, crime victims' rights, national security, defense and intelligence.

"Former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl was a great man that put the needs of Arizonans at the center of his career. He never wavered in the fight for Arizona's water future, including securing one our country's largest tribal water rights settlements," said Gallego. "He deserves recognition for his almost 30 years in Congress and his ability to work across the aisle for the good of all Americans."

"Senator Kyl served Arizona with distinction in Congress for nearly three decades. His landmark work securing historic Tribal water settlements shaped our state in ways that will last for generations. He was a true public servant who loved Arizona, and his legacy will endure," said Sen. Kelly.

Kyl, who passed away last week at the age of 84, represented Arizona for four terms while serving in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as served three terms in the Senate, where he served as Minority Whip during his final years in office.

Following the passing of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) back in 2018, the press release said Kyl returned to the Senate to represent Arizona once again.
