Singer Lionel Richie undergoes heart procedure

(NBC, KYMA) - Grammy Award-winning singer Lionel Richie has canceled some shows after undergoing a heart procedure.

The 77-year-old singer is recovering from a common procedure for atrial fibrillation.

Richie's representative said Tuesday he is doing fine but that he will need to take some time off.

As a result, the next three shows of Richie's tour with Earth, Wind and Fire have been canceled.

This includes Saturday's show in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago, and October 2 in Columbus, Ohio.

Richie has experienced troubling medical incidents in recent months.

He was playing in St. Paul when he was forced to end the show early, telling fans he was feeling dizzy.

He also reportedly checked into a St. Louis hospital after feeling weak and dehydrated following an August 29 show.
