Chatsworth community remembers people in bus and helicopter crash

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - A community came together Sunday to remember NBC4 journalists killed in a helicopter crash last week, as memorials also honored the five people who lost their lives in two separate crashes last week.

A memorial mass was held Sunday at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in East Hollywood, honoring NBC4 reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw.

The two were killed September 15 when the news helicopter they were traveling in crashed between two buildings in Chatsworth.

Moreno and Marciniw had been covering a fatal bus crash nearby when their helicopter went down.

Marciniw was a longtime parishioner at the East Hollywood church, where members gathered to remember him and his colleague.

Church members are now hoping to rename Marciniw's regular pew in his memory, creating a permanent place of remembrance for a man they knew as part of their community.
