New species of cat identified for the first time in 100 years

COROICO, LA PAZ, Bolivia (NBC, KYMA) - A new species of cat has been identified for the first time in 100 years, according to researchers.

The species was previously unknown to science and was first described in the journal "Current Biology" on Thursday.

The species is called Leopardus Tilcayo, or the Tilcayo tiger cat, and it lives in the Bolivian Yungas.

It has been described as slender, spotted, and has rounded ears.

The Tilcayo Tiger cat is even smaller than a house cat.

It's population is currently not known but the new study says there are five tiger cat species in South America.
