‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ becomes highest-grossing domestic release of all time

(CBS, KYMA) - "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," the fourth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe "Spider-Man" film series, has made box office history.

The fourth installment of the Tom Holland franchise is now the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.

The film surpassed "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which previously held the top position for more than a decade.

In a post to X, the film thanked the fans for helping make the film the "highest-grossing domestic release of ALL TIME at the North American box office."

LucasFilm, which owns the "Star Wars" franchise, posted to Instagram saying, "From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
