Jon Kyl, former U.S. Senator of Arizona, dies at 84

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (CNN, KYMA/NBC) - Former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) has died at the age of 84.

According to his son, former Sen. Kyl passed away Thursday at his home in Phoenix, with the family attributing his death to complications from a neurological disease.

The lawmaker spent four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives before winning the election to the U.S. Senate in 1994.

Kyl was a three-term senator, eventually becoming Minority Whip during his final years in office.

During his time as senator, Kyl shaped landmark water policies, and guided the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
