WASHINGTON (KYMA, NBC) - Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.) joined House Democrats for a press conference on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning.

"Two years ago, Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans promised to bring down grocery prices on day one. They promised to stop endless wars in the Middle East. They promised to bring energy prices down by 50 percent. They promised to get gas prices below $2 a gallon...but Republicans have done nothing to make life more affordable for the American people. Instead, they made life more expensive.

During the press conference, Rep. Ruiz introduced John Hansen, President of the Nebraska Farmers Union, where they talked about the farm crisis happening across the country, including in Imperial County.

"Growers are paying more because of the tariffs, and export markets are closing...Our families are struggling, and we're here to fight for them," Ruiz shared.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas across the country Wednesday is $4.36 per gallon.

That is 30 cents more than a month ago, and up more than a dollar since the Iran war began.
