Three dead, one hospitalized following helicopter crash in Southern California

LOS ANGELES (NBC, KYMA) - Three people are dead and another is hospitalized after a helicopter crash in Chatsworth, California.

Nearly 60 firefighters responded to the crash just before 7 p.m. Tuesday on N. Mason Avenue in Chatsworth.

The helicopter went down between two commercial buildings, but firefighters say there was no exposure to any structures, and the fire has been completely extinguished.

The chopper was affiliated with NBC-owned station KNBC and operated by Angel City Air.

Four automobiles and two storage containers were also damaged.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, four patients were assessed, and three were pronounced dead on the scene. A fourth was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

"To know that just right behind me, there's people that lost their lives that are still there and that is just beyond words, it really is," said L.A. Mayor Karen Bass.

NBCLA has confirmed the helicopter was a news helicopter, and they have identified two of the victims as News Chopper 4 reporter Eliana Moreno and her pilot, George Marciniw.

According to NBC News, they were on assignment covering a deadly bus crash, which killed at least two people and injured six.

The cause of the crash is unclear, and the NTSB and FAA will handle the investigation.
