South Carolina man falls through ceiling during roof inspection

GILBERT, S.C. (CBS, KYMA) - CCTV footage captured the bizarre moment a man fell through the ceiling of a South Carolina home as he conducted a roof inspection over a leakage issue.

Joel R. Merritt recently shared the video to Instagram as he remembered the incident, which happened three years ago and "gets us laughing every time."

"The insurance adjuster could not determine the cause of the leaks from walking on the roof, so he asked to take a look in the attic. I was with him in the attic as he was looking around when he stepped back onto the ceiling," Merritt told Storyful. "I was obviously shocked when he suddenly disappeared, but I was concerned for his safety."

The video showed the moment the ceiling falls apart and the man drops into the kitchen, leaving Merritt's wife stunned.

"The video was captured by a CCTV camera that I installed in our kitchen so that we could monitor when the dog sitters came and left while we were on vacation. After we got back, I didn't take the camera down immediately and just kind of forgot it was there until that day when we were cleaning up the mess," Merritt said.
