‘South Park’ changes its name to ‘South America’

(CNN, KYMA) - A long-running popular adult animated comedy series is changing its name ahead of its upcoming season.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of "South Park," announced Tuesday for the show's 29th season, it will go by the name of "South America."

"Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount -- a Skydance Capitulation," they wrote in a post to social media.

The move is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the President Donald Trump's second term actions to rename geographic bodies of water.

President Trump has signed executive orders to change "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America" and most recently, "Lake Ontario" to "Lake America."

"South Park," which recently won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program earlier this month, debuts its new season September 16 on Comedy Central.
