Mexicali Aguilas hold opening presser ahead of season

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - The Aguilas de Mexicali enter the upcoming Mexican Pacific League season with championship aspirations as the organization looks to end a decade-long title drought.

While the Aguilas have consistently been among the league's top teams and have regularly qualified for the postseason in recent years, the club has not captured a league championship in 10 years. Team officials believe a combination of strong pitching, improved offensive production and local talent could help change that this season.

During the team's season-opening press conference, Aguilas President Dio Murillo expressed confidence in the club's pitching staff and its ability to lead the team toward its ultimate goal.

“We can confirm that we can lead in pitching,” Murillo said. “And that can take us to win games and reach the main goal, to win the championship.”

Athletic Director Jose Amador highlighted the team's offensive approach as another area of focus. The Aguilas are looking to become more dynamic at the plate and create additional scoring opportunities throughout the season.

“With our batting, we're trying to be more dynamic, create opportunities to score more runs and win more games,” Amador said.

The roster also features a strong local presence, with 12 players from Mexicali. The team views that as an opportunity not only for the players to showcase their talents in front of family and friends, but also to strengthen the connection between the organization and its fan base.

“We're looking forward to seeing our kids grow and we want to be their platform,” Murillo said. “That's the best that could happen to our fans and to the young boys.”

The Aguilas will begin their preseason schedule on Sept. 18 in Ontario, California, where they will face Hermosillo. The team's official home opener at El Nido is scheduled for Oct. 14 as Mexicali begins its pursuit of a long-awaited championship.
