Train slams into trailer as truck gets trapped on tracks

GDANSK, Poland (CBS, KYMA) - CCTV footage captured the moment a trailer was obliterated by a train traveling at high-speed after a truck driver became stuck on the tracks in Gdansk, Poland Thursday.

Footage released by Polish Railway Lines SA shows boom gates open near Gdansk Lipce station and the truck beginning to pass over the intersection before the barriers quickly start to lower again.

The truck driver stops on the tracks as other motorists urge him to drive into the boom gates to avoid the incoming train.

Seconds after he slowly moves the truck forward, the PKP Intercity train smashes into the trailer, sending debris flying.

According to the source, the train driver was taken to the hospital, while the motorist and train passengers were unharmed.

Polish Railway Lines SA used the footage as a reminder to motorists that if you become stuck between the barriers, you should never wait for the train.

"Break through the barrier and immediately leave the crossing," the source said.
