House overwhelmingly passes bill to avert government shutdown

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - The House has overwhelmingly passed a funding bill to avert a government shutdown as the midterm election looms.

On the House floor Tuesday, lawmakers approved the bipartisan legislation by a vote of 370 to 48, with 193 Republicans and 176 Democrats voting in favor.

The continuing resolution will keep federal agencies operating beyond the September 30th deadline, when existing funds were set to expire, and money flowing into mid-December after the election.

The Senate passed the measure last month, and the bill is now heading to President Donald Trump's desk to be signed into law.
