Man accused of killing Charlie Kirk to stand trial

PROVO, Utah (NBC, KYMA) - A Utah judge has ruled that Tyler Robinson, the man who allegedly assassinated conservative political activist Charlie Kirk last year, will stand trial.

Judge Tony Graff issued his decision Tuesday after several hours of closing arguments during a probable cause hearing in Provo.

Prosecutors argued there was enough evidence against Robinson to proceed with the case, while defense attorneys maintained that the evidence is insufficient.

"For the foregoing reasons based off the record and parties' submissions, it is hereby ordered that the defendant, Tyler James Robinson, is bound over for trial in the Fourth Judicial District Court," Judge Graf said.

Following Graf's ruling, Robinson's defense attorney entered pleas of not guilty on all counts on his behalf. If convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty.

The next court date is set for October 23.

Next week marks one year since Kirk's death at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, during one of his Turning Point USA rallies.
