Human remains found in the yard of North Dakota Governor’s Residence

BISMARCK, N.D. (NBC, KYMA) - Work has officially begun to remove and relocate human remains discovered in the yard of the North Dakota Governor's Residence in Bismarck.

Located in the southwest corner near Fourth Street and Boulevard Avenue, contractors initially found remains while working in May.

The area was Bismarck's first cemetery in the late 19th century.

Work has begun to remove the remains Tuesday.

The State Historical Society has found up to 29 additional anomalies underground via radar that will need to be analyzed as well.

An archaeologist is on site now to investigate these.

The remains, once removed, will be relocated to Bismarck cemeteries.

The work is scheduled to be completed by October 15, depending on what else is found underground.
