Padres and Diamondbacks continue tight playoff race

(KYMA) - The fight for the final National League Wild Card spot continues to come down to the wire as both the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks took losses Tuesday night.

The Pads registered one run in the final frame but were unable to complete a rally to beat the Cincinnati Reds. The game came to a 4-3 finish.

As for the Arizona Diamondbacks, tonight was a little bit more of a struggle as they took a 7-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Padres sit half a game above the D-backs in the third wild card slot, with the Chicago Cubs holding a five game cushion on the second wild card position.

Barring a late season collapse from Chicago, it will be San Diego and Arizona in a two-team race for the final spot in the postseason.

The two teams face off against one another in San Diego for a three-game set to end the regular season.
