FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Extreme heat continues through Saturday with cooler days and higher storm chances ahead
A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will stay in effect until 8 pm Saturday due to extreme heat. I am finally tracking cooler temperatures and higher storm chances ahead.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We have chance for isolated showers and storms this evening. This could lead to heavy rain, strong winds, and dust. Take a look at our storm outlook for today.
Storms that came up from the south of Imperial County late this afternoon brought some high winds and dust to the Imperial County area. Highest gust recorded was 50 MPH in El Centro.
Due to the widespread blowing dust there is an Air Quality Alert staying in effect for parts of Imperial County until midnight Sunday due to harmful levels of particle pollution from windblown dust.
An Extreme Heat Warning will stay in place until 8 p.m. Saturday for the Desert Southwest due to extreme heat. Highs will be between 106-115 degrees, and overnight lows between 83-92 degrees.
It is still important to practice heat safety all hours of the day.
Heading into the evening, it will be another hot and sticky night ahead. Temperatures will slowly cool down, but the humidity will be on the rise making it feel hotter.

I am tracking a weather pattern change moving in as our ridge of high pressure continues to weaken. This will lead to increasing moisture for the weekend, which will bring back higher humidity and storm chances this weekend and into early next week. We are also in for cooler temperatures.

I am tracking higher storm chances this weekend and we are finally in for some cooler temperatures starting Sunday. Temperatures next week will be trending seasonable and slightly below as we kick off the month of September.
TRACKING THE TROPICS: I am also tracking tropical activity in the Pacific that may develop in the days ahead. As of now, no tropical storms are expected to make it to the United States, but they may push up some additional moisture to the area. I will be tracking and bring updates.
A new tropical storm named Karina has formed in the Pacific and is expected to turn into CAT 1 Hurricane later tonight. It isn't going to make landfall on land, but could bring some extra moisture to the U.S.
