Hawk fire spreads in Washoe County

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (NBC, KYMA) - A fast moving fire burning in northwest Nevada is prompting evacuations Sunday.

Governor Joe Lombardo declared an emergency as the Hawk Fire spreads in Washoe County.

The blaze, which sparked Saturday morning has burned an estimated 10,500 acres, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue.

At this time there is no containment and nearly 1,000 homes are under threat by the fire.

There approximately 400 personnel from local, state and federal agencies battling the blaze.

Which is being fueled by strong, gusty winds, low humidity and dry vegetation.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
