Matadors women’s soccer open season with 4-0 win over Utah State Eastern

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizona Western College (AWC) women's soccer opened the 2026 season in dominant fashion, shutting out the Utah State Eastern Eagles 4-0 in their season opener.

Freshman forward Giovana Coutinho led the way offensively, scoring twice to record a brace in her first match of the season. Forwards Abril Aguirre and Reina Kasano also found the back of the net to round out the scoring for the Matadors.

AWC controlled the attack throughout the match, finishing with 20 shots on goal while keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Goalkeeper Victoria Yuna and the Matadors' defense recorded a clean sheet as AWC started the season with a convincing victory.

The Matadors will look to build on the strong opening performance as the 2026 season continues.
