Matadors men’s soccer drops season opener

KYMA

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (KYMA) - The #13 Arizona Western College men’s soccer team opened its 2026 season Thursday night with a tough challenge against nationally ranked competition, traveling to take on #16 Salt Lake Community College.

The Matadors let up a goal within the first few minutes of action and were unable to bounce back on the scoreboard for the rest of the game, falling 3-0 to the Bruins.

Arizona Western struggled to generate scoring opportunities throughout the contest, recording just two shots for the entire match.

Matadors goalkeeper Sebastian Belitrandi was tested throughout the evening, facing six shots on goal. The keeper made three saves, but the Bruins capitalized on their opportunities to secure the shutout victory.

The loss drops Arizona Western to 0-1 on the season as the Matadors look to regroup heading into another challenging matchup.

Arizona Western will return to action Saturday when it travels to face #19 Snow College in another nationally ranked showdown.
