Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano spews lava fountains hundreds of feet into the air

KILAUEA, HI. (NBC, KYMA) - Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, one of the most active on earth, is at it again.

Sending lava fountains hundreds of feet into the air on Wednesday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The ash plume cloud reached over 16,000 feet or more than three miles, above sea level.

The USGS reported lava fountains continue to erupt from the north vent while lava flows remain confined to Halema Uma U Crater within the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Scientists with the USGS say Kilauea has been experiencing intermittent eruptions since December of 2024.
