Bumble changes messaging rules

(NBC, KYMA) - Bumble is changing one of its signature dating rules, giving matches more flexibility when it comes to starting a conversation.

The dating app will now allow either person in a match to send the first message. Previously, in the heterosexual matches, Bumble required women to initiate the conversation.

The company is also giving users more time to respond. The window to reply to a first message is being extended to 72 hours.

Bumble said it tested the changes in Canada and saw more people starting conversations, fewer chats expiring and more back-and-forth exchanges between matches.

The company added the updates are designed to make it easier for people to connect and keep conversations going.
