School bus stop shooting leaves one student dead in South Carolina

GAFFNEY, S.C. (NBC, KYMA) - A student was shot and killed Wednesday morning at a bus stop in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Gaffney's Mayor says the shooting happened around 7 a.m. near one of the city's apartment complexes.

The Mayor, Dr. Lyman Dawkins the third, also said he believes the victim is a high school student.

Few others details are available.

The Cherokee County School District released a statement which said there is no current danger to our schools and said classes will operate with appropriate safety measures in place.

South Carolina's child victims unit, which conducts investigations into the deaths all children under the age of 18 in the state, has been called in to assist with the case.
