Investigation underway after family in Arizona goes missing

UPDATE (12:39 PM): The Avondale Police Department (APD) provided an update Thursday on the missing persons case that has now turned into a homicide investigation.

APD found human remains in the backyard of a home in Litchfield Park, Arizona.

The missing family investigation started as a welfare check on the husband, wife and son but soon turned into a homicide investigation after arrival to the home.

"Evidence of foul play" was discovered according to Avondale police.

The suspect in the case is believed to be 27-year-old Matthew Flores, and APD believed he has fled the country and is currently searching for the suspect.

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (CBS, KYMA/NBC) - A welfare check at a home in Litchfield Park, Arizona turned into disappearance investigation Wednesday.

Police found evidence of foul play and could not locate the family members said to be living at the home.

Neighbors said they were caught off guard by the investigation since this does not happen often in their area.

Officials said a husband, wife and their adult son are reported missing.

On Thursday morning, drone video captured law enforcement using heavy machinery to dig up a portion of the backyard.

A blue tent was put over the area as well.

According to NBC News, law enforcement officials are holding a press conference to provide an update on the investigation.
