Gov. Katie Hobbs announces $1 billion in medical debt erased for Arizonans

PHOENIX (KYMA, NBC) - Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) is holding a press conference at the State Capitol Wednesday afternoon.

The press conference is to announce that more than $1 billion in medical debt for Arizonans has been erased, according to a press release.

Joining Gov. Hobbs are Allison Sesso, CEO of Undue Medical Debt, and Arizonans who have had their debts erased, and who are sharing their stories "publicly for the first time," the press release said.

In addition, the press release said "additional debt relief letters will begin arriving in Arizonans' mailboxes" this week.

Back in December of last year, Hobbs and Undue Medical Debt eliminated $642 million in medical debt for more than 485,000 Arizonans.
