Suspect in Florida drags two police officers during traffic stop

EUSTIS, Fla. (CBS, KYMA) - Shocking bodycam footage released by police in Florida shows a traffic stop that ended with two officers being dragged by a fleeing driver early on August 1.

The Eustis Police Department (EPD) said, in an affidavit, officers stopped the vehicle after seeing it being driven erratically through Eustis, about 35 miles northwest of Orlando.

According to police, the driver refused orders to shut off the engine and exit the vehicle. As officers tried to remove him, he grabbed one officer by their armored vest and accelerated.

EPD said one officer was dragged while partially inside the vehicle before being thrown onto the roadway. A second officer was dragged about 10 to 15 feet before falling onto the pavement.

Both officers were taken to the hospital. Police said one suffered serious injuries.

The driver fled the scene, police said.

Authorities later apprehended the suspect and charged him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding with injury, and resisting an officer with violence.
