Search continues for Border Patrol detainee who escaped custody in Louisiana

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (NBC, KYMA) - The search continues Tuesday for a Border Patrol detainee who escaped custody Monday in Southeast Louisiana.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Border Patrol agents conducted a traffic stop along eastbound Interstate 12 near the St. Tammany Parish line yesterday.

Three Hispanic men in the car were detained, however the driver and front passenger ran from agents.

The agency says 31-year-old Elvin Martinez of Honduras is still unaccounted for.

He was last seen on a trail camera wearing a long-sleeve camouflage shirt and blue jeans with no shoes on and handcuffed to the front.

He is believed to be in the wooded area North of I-12 in the Robert-Hammond area, possibly in St. Tammany Parish.

Deputies captured the other suspect Monday afternoon after a call was received by 911 that a handcuffed Hispanic man in a blue long-sleeve shirt and khaki pants was trying to break into a mobile home.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Eduin Gonzalez Avilez, also of Honduras, was taken into custody when he emerged from the woods behind the Bedico Creek Trailer Park.
