FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking hot and humid

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect through Friday due to ongoing heat and high humidity across the Desert Southwest.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for the Desert Southwest for the hot and humid weather this week.

With the higher humidity heat index levels will be trending higher as well.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. FRIDAY for the entire Desert Southwest due to dangerously hot and also humid conditions.

Highs will be between 104-117 degrees, and overnight lows between 80-92 degrees. With the heat and higher humidity heat index levels will also be high.

Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day! It may be a warm and humid evening, but make sure to enjoy a chocolate chip cookies for dinner.

The higher humidity is also back and will be sticking around this week. Dew points will stay elevated and in the 60s. It will be feeling hot and sticky!

A ridge of high pressure will stay in place keeping the Desert Southwest hot, and also filtering back higher humidity this week.

Rain and storm chances will favor toward the east, but outflow boundaries could bring in isolated storms and gusty winds.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day is in effect until 8 pm FRIDAY for the Desert Southwest for the hot and humid conditions sticking around all week.

Breezy conditions is also possible through the week. Tracking cooler temperatures early next week.
