FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking potential record breaking heat, warnings extended

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - As we continue to see well above average conditions in our region, the Extreme Heat Warnings that we have felt for nearly two weeks straight has been extended once again.

The Extreme Heat Warnings across the entire Desert Southwest have been extended through Tuesday evening. Putting us just one day shy of experiencing extreme heat for two straight weeks.

In Yuma, the high temperature for Sunday is expected to reach 115°F. By Monday, we should drop a couple degrees to 112°F and a bit more by Tuesday where temps are expected to reach 109°F.

In El Centro, the high temperature for Sunday is expected to break daily records. Imperial County is expected to reach 121°F for most of the afternoon, early evening until about 6 p.m. Breaking the record for heat on August 2nd that was previously 117°F in 1969.

Expect to be in the triple-digits until around 10 p.m. on Sunday. A good time to practice heat safety such as hydrating, staying in air conditioned spaces and wearing lightweight clothing outdoors.

As we have seen the past few weeks, with these extreme temperatures we are also tracking increased humidity in the region.

Over the next 48 hours, expect humid to tropical conditions. Dew points will be in the 58-73 degree range during this time period.

We have seen clear conditions the past few days and that is tracking to continue until Monday morning where we will see some partly cloudy skies. Things will clear up into the afternoon but in the evening hours some of the cloud cover will return. Into Tuesday morning, expect to see some clouds in the sky as well.
