FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking extreme heat to kickoff August

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - We have been in Weather Authority First Alert Action Day mode for 10 straight days due to Extreme Heat Warnings throughout the region.

Into the weekend we are tracking some of the warmest temperatures of the year so far. On Saturday, the high temperature in Yuma County is expected to reach 116°F. While Imperial should reach up to 118°F, just a few degrees off the record high.

Sunday and Monday in Imperial County are tracking to see similar conditions. Sunday's high is expected to reach 117°F. Monday should be one degree cooler at 116°F. Into Tuesday, we are expecting things to cool down slightly. Still sitting a bit above average though at 113°F.

In Yuma County, Sunday is also expected to see a one degree drop to 115°F. By Monday, we are tracking a slight cooling trend with temps dropping to 111°F. Into Tuesday, we should see a high temperature around 108°F.

We are still tracking fairly humid conditions during the weekend. Dew points will range from 56-70 degrees over the next 24 hours. Overnight Monday into the early morning hours, expect to see dry conditions. But, by Monday afternoon, those dew points are expected to jump back up to a tropical 70 degrees.

For our weekend winds, we are tracking calm gusts on Saturday. Expect those wind gusts to top out around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sitting in the 21-25 miles per hour range in Imperial County. Yuma County should see calmer winds, sitting in the 12-15 miles per hour range.

Overnight we could see some 20 plus mile per hour gusts. But into the morning on Sunday, expect calmer gusts once again. Sitting in the 12-17 miles per hour range across our entire region. By Sunday evening around 6:00 p.m., we are tracking our strongest gusts of the day. Expect to see similar Sunday evening speeds as we saw on Saturday.

As always during these dangerous heat conditions, limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
