GoFundMe created for Mexicali girl in need of surgery

MEXICALI, Mexico (KYMA) - A girl in Mexicali urgently needs surgery to prevent the loss of one of her kidneys.

The family of Melanie Montes, 11, says she must undergo surgery at a private hospital since public hospitals are unable to perform the surgery.

Her family is unable to afford the medical expenses that will cost them over $4,000.

Claudia Montes, Montes' mother, dedicated her time selling hot dogs to help raise the money.

"She is currently undergoing a 10-day medical treatment to fight an infection; she contracted a bacterial infection after a catheter was inserted to protect her kidneys," Claudia shared.

Her mother also created a GoFundMe campaign to help raise the money needed for the surgery.
