Taylor Fresh Foods voluntarily recalls all iceberg lettuce

SALINAS, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Taylor Fresh Foods is issuing a voluntarily removing all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico out of circulation in the U.S.

According to a statement from Taylor Fresh Foods, "The FDA traceback is indicating a specific independent farm as the potential source of the outbreak," and "no other Taylor Fresh Foods products across the country are impacted."

The recall comes during an escalating outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a stomach bug that causes weeks of severe diarrhea.

Nationwide, nearly 7,000 people may have been sickened with the stomach bug.

Federal health officials have also told people to avoid lettuce from Taco Bell restaurants in five states: Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

It's unclear whether produce from the supplier could be linked to cases in other states with outbreaks.

This isn't the first time Taylor Farms has been connected to a cyclosporiasis outbreak. In 2013, 631 people in 25 states were sickened by a salad mix linked to the company.
