Airport in Palm Beach officially renamed after President Trump

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (NBC, KYMA) - A new name has officially taken flight.

Thursday marked the end of the name Palm Beach International (PBI), now there is a new name: President Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT), becoming the ninth commercial airport in the country named after a president.

Back in March, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) signed a bill to rename PBI after President Trump, which took effect earlier this month.

As the original signs are down, with a name and a new look, "President Donald J. Trump International Airport" in its place

The airport is officially rebranding from PBI to DJT.

Travelers are already seeing the name on their boarding passes and will continue to see the roll out in phases

Inside the terminal, passengers have mixed feelings about the change.

"I love it...couldn't love it more. He deserves the name of this airport," said Carla Hamilton, a traveler.

"I'm at PBI today. I just don't like change so much," said Dawn Steadman, another traveler.

The airport's website has been updated to the new name as well, but when actually searching for the airport online, people still need to type PBI or West Palm Beach airport until next month.

In the meantime, flights will continue taking off and landing just as they always have.

Trump took to social media Thursday celebrating the renaming while adding, "Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your Vote and your Confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World!"

Earlier this year, Southern Blvd, a street running from the airport to the president's Mar-a-Lago club, was renamed President Donald J. Trump Blvd.
