FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking continuous heat through Thursday night

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day remains in effect due to extreme heat through Thursday night across the Desert Southwest. Stay cool and hydrate throughout the day.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day remains in effect until Thursday night due to this dangerous heat and potential for heat-related illnesses.

An Extreme Heat Warning is also still in effect for the entire Desert Southwest until 8 p.m. Thursday due to major heat risks. Highs will be between 109-117 degrees with lows between 80 and 90 degrees.

It is going to be a very warm night ahead as we will have no relief from this heat even after the sun goes down. Overnight lows will be trending in the 80s by tomorrow morning.

Make sure to practice heat safety all hours of the day.

A strong ridge of high pressure will settle and dominate the region this week keeping us hot. However, there is moisture in the southeast that may elevate our dew points making it hot and a little humid.

A Weather Authority First Alert Action Day will remain in place until Thursday due to the hot temperatures through the workweek.

We are in for some slight changes by the weekend as I am tracking slightly cooler temperatures and breezier conditions. I am also watching out for any shower and thunderstorm potential on the way early next week.

LOOKING AHEAD: Tracking some monsoonal moisture that may move into the Desert Southwest early next week bringing in rain potential. Stay tuned for updates!
