Arizona police officer goes the extra mile to help stranded driver
AVONDALE, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - An Avondale, Arizona Police officer goes extra mile to help stranded driver with flat tire.
Sometimes, during life's hardest moments, we are reminded of the good in people.
Officer Eugene Tokosh with the Avondale Police Department was driving near Litchfield and Indian School when he saw a woman on the side of the road.
"I wasn't sure if it was an accident. If it was, I wanted to render aid," Officer Tokosh shared.
Fortunately for Tokosh, it wasn't.
"I learned she hit a pothole or curb while driving on Indian School Road and she was driving up north on Litchfield to go to the gas station to get gas, and her tire was eaten up really bad," Tokosh explained.
Tokosh could've left, but he chose to stay.
"It's been awhile since I changed a flat tire," Tokosh remarked. "The funny story is, when you take the spare out you bounce it, it's solid rock good to go, I put it on she drives off it goes thump, thump, and it's not as solid as I thought it was."
The spare was also in need of fixing, which Tokosh also took care of as he drove to a nearby store to get it like new again.
"I've changed flat tires before on the job, but never having to go to a tire shop to put air into it. It just came to me, I realized there was a Big 'O Tires down the street. I think I've done what any officer would've done, in their line of duty as a police officer, I think it's something we just do," Tokosh expressed.
After about an hour, the woman was back on the road again, and the exchange has become a last reminder that sometimes, kindness can find you when you least expect it.
"I think we're just there to help you in every aspect...From a flat tire, to a call for service. We're here just to help out," Tokosh said.
