Pinal County deputies rescue stranded hiker

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. (NBC,KYMA) - A phoenix hiker needed to be air rescued while on a trip up Picacho Peak in Arizona.

One hiker found himself in need of an airlift rescue after a hiking trip in 105 degree temperatures became dangerous.

"Thankfully he had signal", said Sgt. Daniel Campbell of the Pinal County Sheriff's Dept. when asked about receiving the 911 call.

Sgt. Campbell praised the hiker for reaching out for help.

"We were able to get him extracted safely, pilots did an amazing job because this particular spot is where people have troubles. We've been there before, it's not an easy place to hoist an individual into", said Sgt. Campbell.

So far this year the City of Phoenix has had nearly 120 mountain rescue calls.
