Morgan’s Game Day Grub with Ryan Rosas

Former Kofa standout Ryan Rosas talks baseball, food and college plans on debut of Morgan's Game Day Grub

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Baseball and food came together in the debut episode of Morgan's Game Day Grub, a new feature series highlighting local student-athletes away from the field.

The first guest was former Kofa standout Ryan Rosas, who is preparing for the next chapter of his baseball career at Cochise College. Over lunch, Rosas shared everything from his favorite foods to his game-day traditions and the eating habits that have helped him prepare for college baseball.

For Rosas, wings top the list.

"I love wings. I'm a big wing guy," Rosas said. "Heavy on steaks and chicken for sure, but I like wings."

His love for chicken dates back to childhood.

"I always grew up around chicken tenders and chicken wings," he said. "Chicken tenders were the little nuggets, so what's the next big adult step? It was wings."

When he's at a baseball game, however, wings usually aren't on the menu.

Instead, he sticks with a ballpark classic.

"I don't think you can go wrong with nachos," he said. "Just cheese and nachos. You could throw some beef in there and get away with it."

Like many baseball players, Rosas also has a favorite sunflower seed flavor.

"The Taco Bell ones," he said. "It's like a Supreme Taco Bell flavor. Every time I've had those, they're amazing."

Not every food makes the cut, though.

Broccoli has remained at the bottom of his list since childhood.

"When broccoli's in front of me, it's just like, 'Oh no,'" Rosas said. "When I was young, I'd be at the dinner table for like two and a half hours. They'd give me a cup of ranch, and I'd basically just be eating ranch with my broccoli."

As he prepares for college baseball, Rosas has shifted his focus toward adding weight and muscle. That includes homemade protein shakes his mom makes with protein powder, creatine, peanut butter, oats, frozen fruit and honey.

"I feel so bloated after," he said with a laugh. "But that's one thing I've figured out. When I'm bloated, that means I'm good. That means I'm kind of expanding a little bit."

Rosas also revealed his go-to Chipotle order: brown rice, pinto beans, beef and cheese. He even shared what may be his most impressive food accomplishment.

"I put down a whole Chipotle bowl in three minutes right before practice," Rosas said. "I don't think the bowl moved. I was just going the whole time."

The first episode of Morgan's Game Day Grub offered fans a chance to see a different side of one of Yuma's top baseball players, proving that sometimes the best conversations happen over a good meal.
