We have a WINNER! Yuma and El Centro hit 111 degrees for the first time in 2026

You all have been guessing when Yuma and El Centro would hit 111 degrees for the first time in 2026. Find out who the lucky winner is of our 111 Temperature contest.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - With the summer-like temperatures here in the Desert Southwest, Yuma, Arizona, and El Centro, California hit the mark of the first 111-degree temperature for the first time in 2026.

El Centro, California, officially hit 111 degrees first on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 3:56 p.m.

Meanwhile, Yuma, Arizona, officially hit the 111-degree mark on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 3:51 p.m.

KYMA News 11 Weather Authority Chief Weather Forecaster Melissa Zaremba has already chosen and notified the winner of our News 11 111 Temperature Contest sponsored by One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating, which features a $500 Visa gift card prize.

There were a total of 329 submissions that were submitted up to June 13. There were 44 people who guessed the correct day.

However, there could only be one winner and guesses had to be shared at least seven days in advance before the 111 mark was met.

Now, even though no one guessed the exact time spot on, this year's winner's guess was the closest we have had, and we are awarding the closest winner the $500 Visa card prize.

The winner is Maydel Castanos!!!!!

Maydel's guess was for Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 3:55 p.m. She was just a minute away from getting the exact time. Very impressive, and she sent in her guess way in advanced on May 7, 2026. This is the closest guess we have seen over the years. Such a great job Maydel!!! Enjoy your $500.

Congratulations again Maydel on your win!!!
