California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra holds campaign event in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KYMA, NBC) - California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra held a campaign event in Los Angeles Tuesday.

The event took place at Mercado La Paloma, a cultural hub and food hall, to mark the launch of his general election campaign.

During the event, he met with Los Angeles residents as well as spoke with the press, saying he was anxious to learn if he'll face off against fellow Democrat Tom Steyer or Republican Steve Hilton in the November election.

According to NBC News, Becerra, who is the former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary during the Biden Administration, received 27.7% of the votes, advancing him to the general election, while Hilton received 25.1% of the votes and Steyer received 22.4% of the votes.

If Becerra wins in November, he will be the first Latino to be elected governor of California.
