Tracking a warming trend this week

We are in for a sunny and warm week ahead. However, our temperatures are going to quickly heat up, bringing in the hottest temperatures of the year so far in the days ahead.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Monsoon Season is officially 1 week from today. This monsoon season is expected to be warmer than normal, with a chance of above-normal rainfall.

What is a monsoon? The monsoon is not a storm; it’s a seasonal shift in our winds, allowing moisture to move into the Desert Southwest, which causes storms to form.

Today is also day 2 for Monsoon Awareness Week, and today's topic is extreme heat. Heat is the #1 weather killer in the United States.

During the monsoon, triple-digit heat is common across the Southwest.  Stay hydrated.  Seek shade.  NEVER leave kids/pets in a car.

That's why this summer and monsoon season, it is important to practice heat safety all hours of the day and know the signs and symptoms to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Happy Monday! Today is another day in the triple-digits, but this is seasonal for early June. Take a look at where our temperatures are trending this afternoon.

Temperatures will slowly cool down through the evening, which will be great to still be outdoors, maybe go to the park or take your pets on a walk. Overnight lows will cool into the low 70s by Tuesday morning.

Tracking a warm and sunny few days ahead. We are in for a few clouds and breezier conditions by Thursday, with temperatures still staying above-average.

Temperatures will quickly heat up for the weekend brining the hottest temperatures of the year so far. Daytime highs will climb to 110+ by the weekend, with overnight lows in the 80s. We are in for a hot weekend to come.
