California governor’s race too close to call

(CNN, KYMA/NBC) - California's governor's race is still too close to call following Tuesday's primary election.

Democratic former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra appears to be in strong position to advance to November.

The other slot on the general election ballot is likely to go to either Republican former Fox News host Steve Hilton or Democratic billionaire investor Tom Steyer.

California is known for counting ballots well after Election Day, so final results could take days or even weeks to become clear.

A day after the election, Hilton held a press conference outside the California State Capitol, where he talked about his plans if he wins November's election.

"When I'm elected governor, we are going to be frugal and careful with public money so we can cut the bloat in our government and reduce everybody's taxes," Hilton shared. "Change is coming to California and the campaign for change starts today. We are not taking a break. The situation in California is too urgent for that."
