Century-old stash of French wine back in the spotlight following restoration

(CBS, KYMA) - A century-old stash of French wine is back in the spotlight after a meticulous restoration.

133 bottles of Chateau D'Yquem are on display in the Czech Republic. They were hidden beneath the chapel of a castle at the end of World War II and weren't discovered until 1985 when an American businessman helped lead authorities to the stockpile.

Experts say the cool, humid conditions underground helped preserve everything from the corks to the dust on the bottles.

"So it preserved the moisture and temperature in a very constant way. I think those were excellent conditions to store a wine and make it age," said Toni El Khawand, cellar master.

Experts confirmed the wine's quality using a device called Coravin, which extracts a sample through a needle without damaging the cork.

Conservators say it's a preservation worth raising a glass to.
