Firefighters battle brush fire in Southern California

CASTAIC, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - Firefighters battled a brush fire along a major interstate in Southern California Monday.

The fire burned along Interstate 5 in Castaic, which is about 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles, and northbound traffic was backed up for miles.

The interstate is a major north-south route stretching nearly 800 miles from the Mexican border to the Oregon state line.

At this time, it is unclear what started the fire.
