Fire damages dozens of apartments in Southern California

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (NBC, KYMA) - A fire has damaged dozens of units at an apartment complex in Riverside, California Friday.

Thick smoke filled the sky above a neighborhood near the UC Riverside campus late Friday morning.

Footage captured shows the extent of the damage on the upper floor of the two-story building, with the flames burning through the roof of the apartments.

According to the Riverside Division Fire Department, about 50 to 100 units were damaged and dozens of people have been displaced.

So far, there aren't any immediate reports of people being injured. However, there have been reports of pets still inside the complex.

The UC Riverside Police Department said the university does not own the apartments, but students do live in the area.
