Large crowd forms outside Swatch store in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS, KYMA) - Police gathered outside a Swatch store in Chicago as a large crowd formed ahead of the release of a collaboration between the watch brand and Audemars Piguet.

The collaboration caused frenzies in numerous cities, and forced store closures, as huge lines grew out of control.

Footage captured by Instagram user @Ladellhughes shows the scene in Chicago. At one point, people are seen shoving and chanting "AP" while police officers guard the entrance.

The Oakbrook Center, home of the Swatch outlet, announced Saturday the planned release of the watch had been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances." The center was to remain closed Sunday.

Swatch U.S. announced closures for 19 stores across the country to "ensure a safe environment" amid "extraordinarily high demand."

The watch, which comes in several colors, is sold at a retail price of between $400 and $420.
