State of California sees largest mushroom-poisoning outbreak in U.S. history

(CNN, KYMA) - California is seeing a record-breaking number of mushroom-poisoning cases.

The state's Department of Health is reporting 47 confirmed cases since November. This includes four deaths, and at least four of the illnesses required liver transplants.

It's considered to be the largest known outbreak of deadly mushroom poisonings in U.S. history.

Health officials warn that cooking, boiling, freezing or drying wild mushrooms does not necessarily neutralize toxins.
